IBADAN — The Oyo State Government has disclosed that it is paying N60 million monthly to pensioners in the state as part of efforts to clear outstanding arrears and uphold the welfare of retirees.

The announcement was made by the State Chairman of the Pension Board, Tunji Adekunle, in a statement released on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.

According to Adekunle, as of April 2025, a total of 22,212 pensioners are currently on the payroll of the Oyo State Pension Board. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to retirees, stating that pensions have been consistently paid on or before the 25th of each month, in line with the payment of active workers’ salaries.

“Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has prioritised the welfare of our pensioners. A sum of N60 million is being paid monthly to offset the pension arrears,” he said.

The chairman also noted that the board has been enrolling new pensioners on a monthly basis. “In 2025 alone, 142 pensioners were enrolled in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April,” he added.

Speaking further, the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Hammed Bello, praised Governor Makinde for his steadfast support of retirees. He highlighted the positive impact of consistent pension payments on the lives of pensioners.

“The timely and consistent payment of pensions has brought relief to many pensioners and strengthened their trust in the State Government,” Bello said.

He also assured the public of the board’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and improvements in pension administration across Oyo State.
