PDP Faction Commends Edo Governor Okpebholo on Security Reforms

The Chief Dan Orbih faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for his decisive efforts in addressing the state’s security challenges.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Benin City, the state capital, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Bob-Manuel Umoru, lauded the governor’s proactive security measures, citing a noticeable reduction in kidnappings, cult-related violence, banditry, and herdsmen attacks.

Umoru attributed the improvement to Governor Okpebholo’s recent legislative actions, including the signing into law of the Cultism Prohibition Law and the Kidnapping Prohibition Amendment Law, 2025. These laws impose severe penalties, including the death penalty for convicted kidnappers and the demolition of properties linked to criminal activities.

He also highlighted the state’s substantial investment in security logistics. According to Umoru, the acquisition of over 60 new Hilux patrol vehicles and 1,000 motorcycles has enhanced the mobility and responsiveness of security operatives across Edo.

“Governor Okpebholo has also restructured and empowered the Edo State Security Network, which has significantly improved community policing through local participation and intelligence-sharing,” Umoru said.

The PDP spokesman noted that the current administration’s focus on equipping security personnel and enforcing strict laws represents a departure from the previous government’s approach, which he described as less effective in curbing insecurity.

“As a responsible opposition, we recognise the marked improvement in the state’s security architecture,” Umoru stated. “We will continue to engage the government constructively and ensure it remains accountable to the people.”

He urged the governor to maintain momentum, stressing that the battle against insecurity requires continuous vigilance, collaboration, and investment. Umoru also expressed hope for a more prosperous Edo State with a stable economy, promising the party’s support for initiatives that deliver democratic dividends to all citizens.
