Police Arrest Suspect in N1.09 Billion Enugu Procurement Fraud, Recover Stolen Funds

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of an individual involved in a N1.09 billion procurement fraud in Enugu State. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was apprehended following an investigation by the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC), which also facilitated the recovery of the stolen funds.

In a statement issued on Thursday at Force Headquarters in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi clarified that contrary to earlier reports, the case did not involve a cyber breach of the Enugu State Government’s account. “The claims of hacking are entirely false. This was a procurement fraud, not a cybercrime,” the statement read.

Adejobi emphasized that the Enugu State Government, in collaboration with the NCCC, has implemented robust security measures to protect its financial systems. The police urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to rely on verified sources for accurate news.

Enugu Police’s 2024 Operational Achievements

In its recently released 2024 operational report, the Enugu State Police Command highlighted significant strides in combating crime. A total of 1,072 suspects were arrested for offences ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to murder and cultism.

The report also detailed the recovery of 200 firearms, including 21 AK-47 rifles and 1,863 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, 124 stolen vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles were recovered, and 100 kidnapped victims were rescued.

The arrest in the N1.09 billion fraud case adds to the commendable efforts by law enforcement in ensuring public safety and cracking down on financial crimes.
