President Tinubu to Present N47.96tn 2025 Budget to National Assembly Amid Tight Security

Abuja, Nigeria — Barring any last-minute changes, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to visit the National Assembly Complex before noon today to present the 2025 budget proposal before a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.

The Federal Executive Council approved the N47.96 trillion budget estimate on Monday, setting the stage for its formal presentation.

In preparation for the President’s visit, the National Assembly Complex is under heightened security. Operatives from the Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Sergeant-At-Arms, and the Federal Road Safety Corps have been deployed to restrict access, allowing only individuals with verified business related to the budget presentation into the premises.

Additionally, National Assembly staff providing clerical and auxiliary services were instructed to remain at home until the event concludes. Banks, food vendors, and other business operators within the complex have also been directed to shut down temporarily.

The session will be presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas. Both legislative chambers have already approved the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, which form the foundation of the proposed budget.

This presentation marks another milestone in President Tinubu’s administration, as it seeks to address economic challenges and outline fiscal priorities for the 2025 fiscal year.

The budget proposal, once laid before the National Assembly, will be deliberated upon by lawmakers in the coming weeks.
