Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has highlighted that the ongoing political crisis in Rivers is fundamentally about control over the state’s resources. Addressing the congregation at Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Worldwide on Sunday during the church’s 18th anniversary and the 51st birthday of its General Overseer, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, Fubara assured the people of Rivers State of his commitment to using these resources judiciously to benefit the public.
The governor emphasized the importance of prayers from the church to maintain focus on governance despite challenges. He praised Apostle Chinyere’s philanthropy, noting his dedication to providing education and vocational training to children through various church programs. Fubara expressed admiration for the OPM’s impact, acknowledging Chinyere’s contributions to society and attributing part of his administration’s resilience to the church’s prayers.
In recognition of OPM’s community-focused initiatives, Fubara announced a donation of N200 million to support the church’s ongoing infrastructure projects, including a TV station facility that will accommodate visiting guests. Fubara stated, “I strongly believe [Chinyere’s] prayers and those of the church are reasons we remain steadfast in the face of challenges.”
Also in attendance was Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who commended Apostle Chinyere for his work, describing him as a source of hope and spiritual guidance. She urged him and other clerics to continue praying for peace in Rivers State.
Apostle Chinyere, in his address, explained that his efforts to empower young girls, including establishing an all-girls technical school, aim to discourage prostitution by equipping them with skills. He remarked, “When you empower the girl child, she’ll use her hands, not her body, to earn a living.” Chinyere reiterated that such efforts address socioeconomic challenges affecting young women in the region.
