School Bus Crash Near Johannesburg Claims Lives of 12 Children

Johannesburg, South Africa – July 10, 2024 – A heartbreaking school bus accident near Johannesburg, South Africa, has left twelve children dead and several others injured. The tragedy unfolded early Wednesday morning when a minibus transporting students to school collided with another vehicle. The impact caused the minibus to overturn and erupt in flames.

Gauteng Provincial Government Confirms Deaths

The Gauteng provincial government issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the devastating news. The statement revealed that the minibus driver also perished in the crash, bringing the total confirmed fatalities to thirteen. Seven additional children who were on the bus sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Gauteng education minister Matome Chiloane expressed his profound sorrow in a statement. “The loss of our children is a devastating blow to our community,” Chiloane said. “Our deepest condolences and unwavering support go out to the families of the deceased and injured learners during this incredibly difficult time.”
