Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has cautioned the Igbo people to be vigilant against actions and narratives capable of creating division and discord in Igboland.
Ejimakor issued the warning in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, against the backdrop of the renewed controversy surrounding the Monday sit-at-home in the South-East.
His statement followed the decision of Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who last week ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market over traders’ refusal to end the sit-at-home observance.
The governor’s action sparked nationwide reactions, with some Nigerians supporting the move and others opposing it.
Reacting to the development, Ejimakor urged Ndigbo not to be driven by emotions or sentiments, warning against any attempt to exploit the situation to destabilise the region.
“Amidst the controversy over the Monday sit-at-home, Ndigbo must be vigilant to any plots to seize the moment to sow discord in Igboland,” he said.
While acknowledging the need to end the sit-at-home, Ejimakor stressed that the process must be handled carefully and strategically.
“While it’s desirable that the sit-at-home be ended once and for all, it requires tact and a recognition of the main issue that triggered it,” he added.
