Solarcool Expands Footprint with New Office in Lagos

Solarcool, a trailblazer in off-grid cooling solutions, is excited to announce the inauguration of its new Smart Hub office in Lagos, Nigeria. This development is a major step forward in the company’s mission to deliver clean, dependable energy across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Serving the Western Region

The Lagos Smart Hub will cater to the entire western region of Nigeria, introducing Solarcool’s cutting-edge solar-powered cold rooms and freezers to communities in need. Since its founding in 2021, Solarcool has aimed to reduce food spoilage and enhance food security through sustainable cooling solutions.

Leader in Off-Grid Cooling

From the beginning, Solarcool has obtained crucial grants and certifications, solidifying its position as a leader in the off-grid cooling sector. The company’s products are MANCAP approved and approaching Verasol certification, demonstrating their commitment to quality and reliability.

Strategic Partnerships and Rollouts

In collaboration with NEP, Solarcool is executing phased rollouts of its solutions in selected communities. The company is also creating innovative financing solutions to make its products accessible to low-income households, advocating for policy reforms, and seeking grant partnerships to support the broader adoption of off-grid solar solutions.

Impact and Job Creation

Solarcool’s ambitious objective is to install and maintain 10,000 solar-powered cooling devices, benefiting over 30,000 households. This initiative is anticipated to generate up to 1,000 local jobs, with a special focus on empowering women through employment opportunities and training programs.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

Co-founder Chris Edeh highlights the economic advantages of improved food preservation, noting that Solarcool’s pay-as-you-go model eliminates upfront cost barriers, allowing individuals to improve their livelihoods. The company aims to reach 50,000 households by 2026 through strategic collaborations with impact investors.

Sustainability and Growth

Solarcool is committed to promoting environmental sustainability by reducing food spoilage and fostering local economic growth through reliable cooling solutions. As a member of the SET Alliance and a participant in Katapult’s accelerator program, Solarcool aligns its objectives with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advocating for clean energy access, technological innovation, and social inclusion.
