Nigerian football stars Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali have condemned the treatment of the Super Eagles at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, describing their ordeal as “inhumane.” The national team was stranded for over 14 hours without access to food, water, or internet, as they awaited assistance.
Osimhen expressed his frustration on social media, calling for immediate intervention from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). “Actions like this go against the spirit of sportsmanship,” he wrote, emphasizing the need for swift action to support his teammates.
Stanley Nwabali also voiced outrage, detailing the harsh conditions they faced. He urged CAF to step in, saying, “Over 14 hours spent at an abandoned Libyan airport. No food, no water, no internet access—this is absolutely crazy!”
The Nigerian team, en route to Benghazi for a crucial qualifier, had their chartered flight diverted mid-flight, leading to the delay. Despite their predicament, the Libyan Football Federation failed to provide support, leaving the team stranded.
CAF has yet to issue a response regarding the incident.
