Terrorists have released the final six victims abducted during the December 2025 attack on a church in Aiyetoro-Kiri community, Bunu land, Kogi State, bringing an end to weeks of captivity for all those taken.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Aiyetoro-Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA), which said the release followed prolonged negotiations and the payment of ransom. The association described the period as a traumatic ordeal for the victims, their families and the entire community.
It will be recalled that on December 14, 2025, suspected bandits attacked a branch of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Aiyetoro-Kiri community, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. During the assault, at least one person was killed, while several parishioners were abducted.
AKBDA said the victims were released in batches over several weeks. The first group of seven regained their freedom on January 1, 2026, followed by three others on January 12. Fourteen more abductees were released the next day, before the final six were freed most recently, completing the process.
The association expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of all the victims and thanked families, community members and well-wishers for their support and resilience throughout the difficult period.
