Ukraine Accuses Russia of Executing Five More Captured Soldiers

Kyiv, Ukraine – March 13, 2025 – Ukrainian officials on Thursday accused Russian forces of executing five more captured Ukrainian servicemen, adding to a growing list of alleged war crimes committed since Moscow’s invasion in early 2022.

Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets condemned the alleged killings, stating that Russian forces “continue to kill Ukrainian prisoners of war.” While he did not specify where the executions took place, Lubinets pointed to a video circulating on social media that purportedly shows the execution of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.

“The video shows at least five allegedly killed prisoners of war. Once again, we see a cynical disregard for international humanitarian law on the part of the Russian army,” Lubinets wrote on Telegram.

Unverified images reviewed by Agence France-Presse (AFP) depict five individuals in military fatigues lying on muddied ground, some appearing to have gunshot wounds to the head.

Lubinets said he had informed the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, urging them to investigate the latest evidence of killings of captured Ukrainian soldiers.

Last month, the UN reported an “alarming rise” in executions of Ukrainian troops in Russian captivity, documenting dozens of such incidents in recent months.

There has been no immediate response from Moscow regarding the latest allegations.
