The Osun State Amotekun Corps has confirmed an attack on its Awo Command in Egbedore Local Government Area by a gang led by a notorious and wanted thug, Ismaila Aluko.
In a statement issued on Monday by the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, the incident occurred last weekend following a request for assistance from the Oniwoye of Iwoye, who alerted Amotekun over an alleged illegal burial on ancestral land.
Idowu explained that four operatives were deployed to the site, but on arrival, they discovered the burial had already taken place.
“Shockingly, a notorious and long-wanted thug, Ismaila Aluko, emerged from hiding with a gang of armed collaborators and launched a brutal attack on the operatives, injuring them in the process,” the statement read.
Faced with escalating violence, the officers tactically withdrew to their command office in Awo to avoid further confrontation. However, the situation intensified as the gang regrouped and launched a second assault, this time targeting the Amotekun office itself.
“In a shocking turn of events, the hoodlums regrouped and staged a second attack on the Amotekun office in Awo. This brazen assault took place in the presence of law enforcement agents, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, an officer of the Department of State Services, and family members of the assailants,” Idowu added.
The attackers attempted to disarm Amotekun operatives, leaving one personnel seriously injured and four others with minor injuries.
Describing the incident as a direct threat to community peace and security, Idowu assured that the corps was collaborating with other security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all those involved.
“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the protection of lives, property, and community peace,” he said.
